Each stage uses a different 'sense'. Sentimental = immediate touch. Thatβs why after reading it people will say, βThat touched meβ. Scholar = aesthetic 'taste'. And so on. Hi Jen, no problem. Yes - as I say in the lecture, itβs both how the reader responds, and what the author uses - hence the scholar uses 'aesthetic tasteβ to write.

Interesting, I'm not sure I quite follow the column of senses being attributed particular sense to particular style, perhaps I'm reading it wrong
